By | May 4, 2015
XPEnology boot IMG boot usb-flash-drive

Loader upgrade process is no different from creating!

When you upgrade the boot loader on the USB stick all the current data will be overwritten!
Save the exported your values (MAC & Serial & VID & PID) before upgrading!

Requirements:

For Windows
For MAC
For Linux
For ISO & VMDK

      hi,

      great tutorial!!

Question: is the Mac/SN number a must or optional? I just want to update from 5.1 to 5.2 and dont use any synology services except for the filestation and system tools.

How do I make an autoboot (no user input needed)?

My “syslinux.cfg” looks like this but that doesn’t do the trick:

    UI menu.c32
    PROMPT 0
    TIMEOUT 0
    DEFAULT xpenology
    MENU TITLE XPEnoboot 5.2-5592.2

    LABEL xpenology
    MENU LABEL XPEnology DSM 5.2-5592
    KERNEL /zImage
    APPEND root=/dev/md0 ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3615xs sn=B8LWN07319 mac1=00113203CE95 mac2=00113203CF95 rmmod=ata_piix vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305

    LABEL debug
MENU LABEL XPEnology DSM 5.2-5592 Debug
    KERNEL /zImage
    APPEND root=/dev/md0 ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3615xs sn=B8LWN07319 mac1=00113203CE95 mac2=00113203CF95 rmmod=ata_piix vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 debug=1

    LABEL install
MENU LABEL XPEnology DSM 5.2-5592 Install/Upgrade
    KERNEL /zImage
    APPEND root=/dev/md0 ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3615xs sn=B8LWN07319 mac1=00113203CE95 mac2=00113203CF95 rmmod=ata_piix vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 upgrade=5.2-5592

I have three identical 8GB USB sticks. One I use for a xpenology Nas. The two other I can’t use. The machine will not boot. At the end I used an old usb stick 128MB. The machine booted end there was no problem. Can someone tell me what is wrong with the USB sticks, or what I did wrong.
